MailerLite is an email marketing service founded in 2005, with over 1 million worldwide users today.
Full of incredible email marketing tools like a drag-and-drop website builder, an automation editor, signup forms, and more, MailerLite is one of the most user-friendly email marketing services for individuals or small businesses looking to supercharge their email campaigns without breaking the bank. In this review, I’ll be going over the good and bad of MailerLite, and why any small business should or shouldn’t choose this platform.
MailerLite Review Summary:
- MailerLite is relatively new to the email marketing space, and its user-friendly modern design demonstrates that.
- They offer a forever free plan and, on paid plans, it’s cheaper than MailerLite competitors like Mailchimp or Getresponse.
- Marketing automation is incredibly simple, allowing you to automate emails and set up automated workflows in an intuitive drag-and-drop editor.
- 24/7 live chat support is available for paid users to troubleshoot any issues they may find.
- MailerLite complies with EU data protection laws, and is GDPR-compliant.
- Overall, MailerLite lets users easily manage and automate their email campaigns with 12,000 monthly emails on their free plan or unlimited emails on any paid plan.
MailerLite Compared to Other Email Marketing Services
MailerLite is incredibly intuitive for fledgling email marketers, but it isn’t the only option for email marketing and list management. Other than MailerLite, here are a few of the best options that also offer incredible email marketing tools.
Aweber is my top recommendation, as it allows users unlimited subscribers and unlimited emails in one platform, which you can start with for free and grow as your business grows. With incredible email marketing and email deliverability, Aweber is one of the best choices for small businesses to hit the ground running.
GetResponse is another great recommendation for anyone in need of an email marketing service because you can start for free and easily scale from there using automations like autoresponders, if/then scenarios, and automated subscriber management. With an unlimited list size even on their free plan, GetResponse is the best choice for growing businesses and individuals looking to scale their email marketing efforts.
Mailchimp users will already know this, but Mailchimp is a similarly simple all-in-one email marketing platform that offers features like a website builder and unsubscribe page builder, a custom HTML editor, and many more email marketing tools. Thorough reporting and analytics make Mailchimp another great option for maximizing your email campaigns while minimizing your expenses.
The Good of MailerLite
MailerLite isn’t just a platform for you to send emails to your subscribers; there’s quite a bit more advanced functionality under the banner of an “email marketing service”. Here are some of MailerLite’s most important features:
Sending email campaigns:
MailerLite allows you to create and distribute advanced campaigns to your subscribers, which you can build using their drag-and-drop editor with content blocks or their custom HTML editor, an email editor meant for code-savvy users and custom code.
In addition, MailerLite has an email verification system called MailerCheck that helps you build a genuine email list and improve email deliverability. MailerLite encourages users to verify a custom domain to improve email deliverability as well. MailerCheck is separate from MailerLite, and costs $10 a month for 1,000 credits, one credit being equal to one verified email.
If you have a blog, you can also use MailerLite for RSS campaigns and update your subscribers every time you post a new article.
You can use MailerLite’s automation editor to create custom automated workflows so when a subscriber joins or new subscribers join, MailerLite can group subscribers into whatever category you want, then email subscribers with promotions or other marketing material.
This makes subscriber management a simple task; just set up your marketing automation, then let it handle subscriber management and bring subscribers through whatever email chain you choose. Whether it be visiting a page, clicking a link, or on an exact match of a date, automation can be triggered by any of these things and sort subscribers into interest groups of your choice.
Website & landing page builder:
With MailerLite, not only can you build emails, but you can also use the drag-and-drop builder to build landing pages through MailerLite’s landing page editor or their dozens of pre-made template landing pages.
MailerLite’s landing page builder is as simple as it gets, making it easy for anyone of any skill level to drag and drop interactive content blocks and set up the perfect landing page to collect leads. You also have the option of starting from scratch or making your own template, plus the ability to create embedded forms in your web pages.
There are three options for the landing page builder, starting with the drag and drop editor. Using standard or dynamic content blocks, you can easily put together aesthetically pleasing landing pages for your subscribers to interact with your dynamic content.
Next, MailerLite also offers a rich text email editor to help create more personal emails. The rich text editor lest you add links, images, tables, videos, and signatures to further connect with your audience.
Lastly, there is the HTML editor, best for people who have experience with CSS and code ready to input on their websites or landing pages. This unfortunately isn’t available with the free plan, and is restricted to the “Advanced” plan.
You can have up to 10 landing pages with the free plan, and you can get extra landing pages with any paid plan.
MailerLite has direct integration with major platforms such as Shopify and Stripe, allowing users to sell digital products on an online store and market that store through one platform.MailerLite also integrates with over 100 other tools, from CRMs to signup forms and pop-up forms with custom fields to social sharing through Facebook Audiences.
API V2 is the latest version of MailerLite API. Released on March 22, 2022, the new API is RESTful (Representational State Transfer Architectural style) and easy to integrate with.
MailerLite offers 24/7 live chat support to all users, even if you’re on the free plan. MailerLite estimates a 5-minute response time and a 97% customer satisfaction rate, making their customer support as good as it can get.
Additionally, if live chat support isn’t available, email support is also an option. Email support ensures that, even if live chat isn’t available, customers will always have the option to get their issues resolved in a timely manner.
The Bad & Ugly of MailerLite
For all its upsides, MailerLite isn’t infallible. There will be shortcomings on the company’s part, and there will be issues on the customer’s part. Here I’ll go over issues that I found personally along with recurring issues seen on review sites like GetApp and Capterra.
Several MailerLite reviews describe either a persistent low deliverability rate or an automatic removal of “bad” contacts without any notification.
One user notes that their intention with using MailerLite was specifically to improve email deliverability, but their campaigns had consistently low deliverability over a span of days or even weeks, with a lack of reporting that made the problem more than a bit confusing.
Another user notes that his imported contact list of 6,500 was, without notification, trimmed down to 6,300 available contacts without any notification or reason as to why.
After talking with support, they realized that unverified contacts were being removed, but with no notifications. Even though many of the emails he sent out to those unvalidated contacts bounced, he was still charged for a total of 600 blocked email contacts.
A large majority of negative MailerLite reviews are based around issues with customer support, and either their lack of tact or promptness. MailerLite doesn’t offer live chat service unless you pay for the “Advanced” plan, which limits free users and “Growing Business” plan users to email support. This email support has been noted by several people as slow, unhelpful, and, most importantly, unreliable.
One user reports that they used MailerLite for years without issue integrated with their Shopify store, but the moment a handful of bounces occurred, their account was blocked.
Customer support requested that the user go through over 20,000+ emails and remove any customers that signed up to the newsletter over two years prior with no explanation in order to unblock the user’s account, and refused to refund the user for their most recent payment if they wouldn’t go through those emails.
The amount of negative reviews is dwarfed be the amount of positive MailerLite reviews on every review platform I visited, but these concerns might be enough to give more cautious users pause.
On average, MailerLite reviews give the email tool e a 4.7/5 on GetApp, a 7.3/10 on TrustRadius, and a 4.5/5 on Software Advice.
MailerLite’s Pricing: How much does MailerLite cost?
MailerLite’s pricing is mainly based on the amount of subscribers you want; you get unlimited emails and have access to advanced features like the drag-and-drop editor, email automation builder, signup forms and pop-up forms, websites, and many more.
MailerLite’s free plan allows up to 1,000 subscribers and 12,000 monthly emails for one user, plus the drag-and-drop editor, email automation builder, et cetera, et cetera.
Plus, you get 24/7 email and chat support for 30 days after you sign up.
All things considered, MailerLite’s pricing is a major benefit of their platform. With all the features MailerLite provides, the price they ask is extremely cheap compared to its competitors, the greatest of which is Mailchimp. See their compared prices below:
|“Growing Business” Plan (per mo.)||“Advanced” Plan (per mo.)||Mailchimp “Standard” Plan (per mo.)|
|> 1,000 contacts||$10||$21||$20|
In addition to the standard MailerLite email marketing suite, there is also a transactional email platform called MailerSend, which allows up to 12,000 emails a month at $1.00/1,000 emails for free, and for $25/mo you can send 50,000 emails per month at $0.90/mo, plus SMS messaging at $1.40/100 SMS and 100 email verification credits.
MailerLite Review Summary
Overall, MailerLite is an excellent marketing software built for simple list management, landing page building, and standard email marketing.
From just $10 a month, you can create and automate email campaigns with a beginner-friendly website builder among other tools, including easy list management.
I’d recommend MailerLite to anyone looking for a simple solution to their email marketing needs, and looking to scale easily. Their user-friendly suite is perfect for anyone of any skill level, thus it’s pretty much perfect for people in all industries who need email management.
